They say opposites attract, and in a lot of ways, that’s true for Patrick and I. He wakes early and I’m a night owl (up writing blog posts!) and I like to be hot and he likes to be cold…but the differences that make the biggest difference in our marriage are that he is messy and I’m particularly neat and he’s a borderline hoarder when it comes to papers and I’m a paper pitcher.
My hubby is pretty lax…I get away with a lot without making him mad! If the house doesn’t get cleaned or the bed isn’t made, he doesn’t mind. If I don’t get to making dinner, we just go out, no questions asked. He’s even come around to just letting me watch The Bachelor/ette on Monday nights and not giving me a hard time about it! The ONE thing I absolutely can NOT get away with is throwing away something that is important…oh how that makes my hubby mad! But paper piles make me another type of mad…they drive me crazy!
I have been searching for a file cabinet that I like for the longest time…the problem is, file cabinet’s aren’t particularly pretty…I have a fix though and I’m sharing it with y’all today! Check out the before and after on this baby…!
I found this big ol’ file cabinet at a store in downtown Franklin (Just outside of Nashville, Tennessee) called JJ Ashley’s. This trendy shop is known for it’s upscale interiors that could bring any Pinterest board to life…seriously, everything is so beautiful in this shop! Just out back from their fabulous showroom is their discount barn where everything is at least 50% off. That’s where I like to shop 😉 Most of the items found in the barn just need a little lovin’ – such was the case for my new file cabinet! It was in excellent condition, sturdy and strong and not at all damaged. It just had some exterior struggles…aside from badly needing a makeover, it was victim to a paint splatter. I got this little organization haven for $60!
I cleaned her up and clothed her in spray paint, but she needed to be accessorized 🙂 After buying the wrong size hardware, I decided to try coating her old brassy bits and it worked like a charm…I was suddenly okay with her original hardware! I’ll never get over the amount of power a can of spray paint holds!!! Seriously!
I took to the dollar store, (Yep, you read that right, the DOLLAR STORE!) for her finishing touches! I picked up some 8 x 10 photo frames and clear magnetic frames. I sprayed the 8 x 10 frames and super glued one to the front of each drawer for an extra decorative touch that I think makes a world of a difference! I then cut some card stock and put it inside of the clear frame to label each drawer for extra organization!
Ta to the Da! Ladies and Gents, Patrick and I are officially off the hook of our major marriage difference – for the price of just $68! You see, I’ve set us both up for some serious organization success! If an important paper goes missing, it’s now no longer on me and my paper pitching ways because with all this extra filing space, I made us a “To Go Through” file. Patrick will no longer get in trouble for his awful paper piles lying around the house because there won’t any awful paper piles lying around the house…they will be in the “To Go Through” file 🙂 Um, I’d have paid a lot more than $68 to fix this marital problem, but only paying $68 to fix this marital problem is all the better!
Now, to go through all of our papers…Oy vey! It’s gonna be a long night 😉
