Our baby girl, Greta, turned two at the end of January! To celebrate, we had a Tu-Tu themed Birthday Party!
The idea obviously came from the idea of our baby girl turning two, and her Mama’s love of putting her in tu-tu 😉 but I needed more reason as to “why a tu-tu party” for her, you know, because 2nd Birthday Parties are some serious business 😉 Because Greta loves music and dancing, I decided to make it a “Tu-Tu Dance Party”, and let me tell you, it was “tu-tu” fun!
We had the party at Ann Carroll School of Dance in Franklin, Tennessee, and the celebration was complete with a tu-tu clad dance teacher!
I of course had to have tu-tu’s for all of the girls! I found these sweet colorful tu-tu’s on Amazon! They were great quality for the cost! Each girl also got a little tiara that I found at Hobby Lobby 🙂
We had a few boys there as well, and decided to have them dress up in Top Hats! I found these at the dollar store! Perfect!
I was pretty tickled to come up with the “Top Hats & Tu-Tu’s” idea! I really wanted the boys to feel included even though this was a girlie themed party!!
The kids – especially the older ones – had a ball learning how to dance!
While our girl was a little young to follow the lead of the teacher, I loved that the space allowed the freedom for wandering 🙂
Greta, our little monkey, of course loved climbing up the walls thanks to the help of the ballet bar – lol – she may not be ballerina material afterall 😉
She had a blast though, even if she didn’t party the way that I envisioned her partying 🙂
I decided to make Greta’s cake this year, and I used this recipe to turn a boxed cake into bakery quality! Y’all, I may never buy another Birthday cake again! This Funfetti cake topped with their Marshmellow icing was thebomb.com! Sure it wasn’t as beautiful as I wished it was, but it served its purpose! Birthday cakes are SO expensive, and we’ve fallen into the trap of paying for them, and we don’t even really like cake! Although a little bit of an added stress, (Because really, who needs another thing to do when throwing a Birthday party?!) it was worth the saved funds for sure! I initially intended to “star” the entire top of the cake, but as I circled in, I thought it looked like a tu-tu and decided to just make it Greta’s tu-tu cake 🙂
I also turned her cake stand into a tu-tu! I bought this cake stand pre-babies and swore that each holiday I would change out the ribbon…that happens…NOT! This was only the second time the ribbon got changed out, and now I’m afraid it’s going to be a tu-tu cake stand FOREVER – haha!
I’ve got a creative soul. I love to craft and create, and I can pretty much make any project work, but the one I struggle with the most is decorating cookies and cakes. Given this fact, I was proud that the cake turned out as cute as it did! I’m really not good at cake decorating, and this was among my best work haha…sad!
I always love putting together treat bags for kids! I found these gold glitter boxes at Hobby Lobby, and filled them with a pink beaded necklace, play ring, bubble gum, a ring pop, heart shaped sunglasses, bubbles and a pink blow pop! The boys got a glow stick and a toy car in place of the necklace and ring.
My mom’s contribution to the party were the adorable little glass jars (from Target’s Dollar Spot) filled with pink cotton candy! I found the cotton candy at Sam’s Club. My mom found cute little ballet slipper rings that I tied to to each container with pink tulle 🙂
Overall, I’m happy with how Greta’s 2nd Birthday Party turned out! It was a hit all around, and really turned out just “tu-tu” cute and was “tu-tu” much fun!
