Three years ago today, Patrick’s NFL career ended when he was cut from the Tennessee Titans. I’ll never forget that day, nor the spot where I was when I got that crushing news. I was driving and had to pull over from the shock of it. We thought he had made the team, we thought he was safe. Patrick made the initial 53-man roster, but we waited the weekend to share this good fortune, knowing that last minute cuts and shuffles were likely. After a few hours in the building on that Monday, without being summoned to the coaches office, Patrick gave me the go-ahead to share the news with our family and friends, that he would be spending another year in the two-toned blue. He spent the morning in meetings and voted on team captains. It wasn’t until he was taped up and ready to head out to practice that he was summoned by “the undertaker”, the man you didn’t want to see coming your direction during cuts.
The announcement of our “good fortune” was posted to my Facebook account not even an hour before I had to reiterate the news to our friends and family. It was a perfect example of just how fast the NFL moves. One minute you’re in it, the next, you’re not. It was the real reality of the NFL lifestyle.
I remember both of us being strangely okay that day. I think we were both in a bit of shock. The days, weeks and months after got harder though. Waiting to find out what was “next” for us seemed unbearable. At the time I thought our “next” would be another team, but it wasn’t. Little did I know that it would take God almost three years to the day to reveal our next…!
After a year of “waiting”, two years spent in Graduate School and months of interning and interviewing, Patrick has finally accepted his newest job position! We are so excited to share that Patrick has signed a contract with a company called Asurion, and will be a Senior Strategic Pricing Analyst there! Asurion is a worldwide company based in Nashville and provides insurance and extended warranties for electronics, appliances and other goods. This local company wasn’t initially on Patrick’s radar, but a recruiter paired the two and it really seems to be a good match for him! We are excited for this opportunity and overjoyed that we get to stay in Nashville!
These three years haven’t been the easiest, but we’ve learned so much from them. I’m thankful for the lessons learned, but I’m even more so thankful to see our chapter of “waiting” come to a close finally. At times I doubted we would get here, but God is faithful, and God is good! We’ve always trusted His plan for our lives, and are excited to see those plans unfold with Asurion. Patrick officially starts his new job on September 11th, so we will be soaking up his last 10 days of “unemployment” with lots of time spent together as a family! I will miss having my mans helping hands around the house 24/7, but I know he is excited to be promoted from Stay At Home Dad 😉 Please keep us in your prayers during this new transition as I knew the kids are going to miss having their Daddy around all the time!
