Yesterday Patrick and I celebrated 5 years of marriage! 5 years y’all! I’m officially convinced that time really does fly when you’re having fun 🙂
We’ve shared so much good life together in these years…our move to Nashville from Pittsburgh, purchasing our home in Franklin, TN, choosing and training our puppy, creating and raising Beau and Greta, our exit from life in the NFL to our entrance into Graduate School at Vanderbilt. Though not all of our experiences over these years have been easy, nothing has yet challenged us the way we were warned it would. I truly believe our challenges have instead made us stronger as a couple.
When we got married I would laugh at the cheesy “Today I Marry My Best Friend” quote, but if we were to get married today, that quote would be our truth. I didn’t marry my best friend, instead the man I married grew into my best friend over these past 5 years of doing life together, day-in and day-out, loving, laughing, respecting, trusting and supporting each other.
The Traditional 5th Wedding Anniversary gift is Wood. I couldn’t help but wonder, “Why Wood?”, but after much thought I came to the realization that Wood is the perfect material to symbolize our first 5 years.
Wood is a strong and durable. It is the foundational material used in all homes and furniture. Wood comes from trees. Trees, when deeply rooted can weather many storms. Trees offer protection, and trees bear fruit. It is hard not to think of Family when thinking of trees!
The first 5 years of our marriage foundation are strong enough to be durable for whatever may come our way in our future. Together we are deeply rooted in the Lord, which is our protection from all storms that come our way! Through Him we’ve been fruitful and multiplied, bearing the fruit of our children, creating our very own Family Tree!
This is a really special milestone we’ve hit and I wanted to celebrate it in a unique way, so I got my husband a JORD Wooden Watch.
Â
How perfect is this gift?! It symbolizes the time past and the time ahead of us in the material that symbolizes our 5th Wedding Anniversary! I was so very excited to present it to him!
When going through the impressive 26Â Men’s Watches JORD has to offer, I easily selected the Dover, Koa and Black for Patrick.
  Â
Looking at the face of this watch reminds me of the face of my husband! You can see the gears of this watch constantly turning, which makes me think of my husbands ever working brain! Sometime in the past year or two I’ve started to notice signs of when Patrick has something on his mind, and to me it looks something like all these gears processing together! In addition, this timepiece reminds me of our relationship. We have so many running wheels going on in our life, but by working on them daily, together, everything keeps on moving on track! Is that extremely deep?! I told you I put a lot of thought into this Anniversary!
I also selected this watch because it is both brown and black, allowing him the versatility to wear it with both color families. Patrick loved this gift! It is definitely an accessory he can wear casually with jeans and a t-shirt, or dressed up in a suit and tie.
With 10 different types of Wood, JORD has something for everyone! They even have a line of Womens Watches. Can someone please encourage my husband to find my face in one of these watch faces?! 😉
Definitely check JORD out for your 5th Wedding Anniversary gift ideas or for any occasion for that matter! Who wouldn’t love a cool and unique wooden watch?! It’s a great conversation starter piece! Plus this is a company I can stand behind in saying they pay close attention to detail for sizing purposes and were extremely prompt in getting my order out to me within a few days!
To further celebrate our 5th Anniversary, we kept the theme of 5 and Wood going, intertwining it into our entire celebration!
Two days prior to our special day (St. Patrick’s Day – hence the green!) Patrick and I took a woodworking class at Woodcraft. This was so much fun for us! We starting building a wooden cutting board and 2 knives. It was kinda intense having our fingers so close to this moving blade…eek!
We will wrap up this fun project when our course comes to a close at the end of the month. I can promise you our cutting board and knives will look nothing like the above photo! I can hardly wait to bring these home and use them regularly!
On our actual Anniversary, we kept the tradition alive of handmade cards
Mine of course had a family tree – a very makeshift family tree haha! I’m crafty, but I can’t draw! Patrick’s shared that he planned for us to take the kids on a hike in the woods 🙂 Before we did though, we fueled up on Nashville famed doughnuts from 5 Daughters Bakery.
We so badly tried to to go 5th and Taylor, or any of the restaurants on 5th Ave. for that matter, but we flunked at making reservations this year, and our walk-in attempts were a bust. But everything happens for a reason right?! We ended up having a downright delicious meal at Watermark Restaurant in The Gulch. They just so happened to have a wooden wall in their bar area – imagine that?! So we took advantage of it for a fun photo op!
As a bride, I put so much thought into planning our Wedding. As a wife, I don’t have the energy to make each day as magical as as our Wedding Day was, but at least I can put all my efforts into trying for one day out of the year!
I hope this post inspires you to make your next Anniversary special in a unique and thoughtful way!
