One month from today, I will turn 30! I hear this is a pretty big milestone Birthday! Over the past few months, I’ve seen many friends turn 30, and I’m excited to join them! I’ve never had a checklist of things I needed to have accomplished by this point, but looking at my life, I’m 100% satisfied with where I am. I’ve got a husband who I know loves me no matter what, I’ve got two kiddos who keep me young at heart, we’ve got a house to call our own, and all kinds of extras to go along with it. We are blessed. There isn’t much more I need. There isn’t much more I want for.
It’s a really cool place in life when you get to the point where “stuff” no longer matters. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to have quality goods and it’s nice to receive thoughtful gifts once a year, but for the first time in my life, I’m in a place where I want my Birthday to not be about me, but rather about what I can can do to make a difference in our world.
It has been laid upon my heart to raise $3,000 for Soles4Souls. I’ve never fund raised before, so this seems like such an incredibly lofty goal to me, but it’s amazing how God gives you something random and makes perfect sense of it! Doing the math, I was amazed to find that if 100 friends donate $30, I will reach my goal! Being that I am turning 30 this year, it made perfect sense to me to ask for donations to Soles4Souls for my 30th Birthday instead of gifts for myself this year.
You may be wondering what sparked this idea. I have an amazingly inspirational friend named Dominique Jordan.
This beautiful friend of mine has one of the most gigantic hearts I have ever had the pleasure of encountering! In December of 2014, Dominique turned 25, and to celebrate her milestone year, she volunteered for 25 days straight leading up to her Birthday! Her “Happy Birthday Dominique” initiative was such a huge success that she decided to up the ante and volunteer for 26 days straight leading up to her 26th Birthday this past December! These past two years, it’s been an honor to volunteer a few of those days alongside her. To see her give of herself so selflessly is what inspired my own Birthday initiative!
Why Soles4Souls? Again, Dominique is the inspiration behind it! She along with her fiance, Coty Sensabaugh (who also has an amazing heart for charity and giving back!) are giving up the traditional, romantic and luxurious Honeymoon after their wedding, and are instead going on a “Mission Moon”.
My heart burst for Dom as I saw her eyes light up as she spoke about it! I had never heard of a Mission Moon before, but leave it to Dom and Coty to think it up! These two are something special! God has His hand upon their love story and He is doing amazing things through them! They have invited their friends and family to be a part of their Mission Moon, so all funds raised through my page will go to that cause. I am hoping that myself and Patrick will be be able to be a part of this trip with Dom and Coty, but with our two kids and Patrick’s internship this summer, we aren’t 100% we will both be able to make it. We are going to make every effort to be there together, or at least me solo, to experience it first hand though! Either way, I want the funds I raise to benefit them and their amazing love and their awesome Mission Moon!
What does Soles4Souls do? This wonderful organization is “Wearing Out Poverty” by putting shoes on the feet of people who can’t afford them.
The statistics are staggering…1.2 billion people live on less than $1.25 a day, 400 million of them are children, and many of them don’t have access to one of life’s most basic necessities, a good pair of shoes. Together we will be distributing hundreds of shoes to adults and children in need in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic on June 23rd-27th, 2016!
I hope you’ll join me in supporting this amazing organization, this awesome couple, and my 30th Birthday initiative! Please know that no donation is too small and every single penny counts! Please give from your heart on my Personal Fundraising Page If a monetary donation isn’t possible at this time, I will also be helping to collect new and used shoes for Coty and Dom’s Mission Moon, so please feel free to comment below or email me directly at maggie4soles4souls@gmail.com if you would like to donate that way!
Thank you in advance for helping me bring light to this goal! I can’t wait to watch God’s work be done though this amazing opportunity!
With Love,
Maggie
