With Baby Bailey’s arrival within the next 2 weeks (2 WEEKS…CRAZY!) I thought it would be fun to do a post on gender-predicting old wives’ tales and get y’alls guesses on if Baby Bailey will be a boy or a girl 🙂 Here goes it…
1.) High VS Low…they say if a pregnant woman is carrying high, it’s a girl, low, it’s a boy!
Me – I’ve felt this baby to be SO low my entire pregnancy! One of my major complaints is how much pressure I feel on my bladder and how many times I have to pee per day! Here’s s belly pic for y’all to be the judge…
2.) The Ring Swing – they say if you hold your wedding ring on a string over your belly it will either swing in a circle for a boy or side to side for a girl.
Me – it was swinging side to side and in circles but mostly side to side.
3.) Skin Changes – they say if your skin breaks out during pregnancy, it’s a girl because she’s “stealing your beauty”. They say baby boys will give you smooth skin.
Me – I’ve had no skin changes, so a spot here and there but mostly clear.
4.) Baking Soda Test – they say if you urinate into a cup with baking soda in it, if you’re having a boy, it will foam up and look like a beer. No foam equals a girl.
Me – Mine foamed up so far up the cup it was more foam than pee!
5.) Baby’s Heartbeat – it’s said if the baby’s heart rate is under 140, it’s a boy, anything faster, it’s a girl! My Doctor laughed and said “a beating heart only means a healthy baby!”
Me – This baby’s heart rate has been all over the place, but I’d say it’s been mostly between 140-150.
6.) Cravings – It’s said if a mom to be is craving sweets it’s a girl, more salty foods, it’s a boy.
Me – I’ve had cravings for both sweet and salty food. My strongest craving was for Sea Salt Pita Chips though I’m always asking Patrick to make me Chocolate Chip Cookies.
7.) Chinese Calendar – Many go off the Chinese Birth Calendar to predict the sex of their baby…try it for yourself with your kiddos 🙂 http://www.babycenter.com/chinese-gender-predictor
Me – It says a girl! I must warn it also said Beau was going to be a girl 😉
8.) Spousal Support – It’s said if your spouse gains weight with you, then get ready for a baby girl!
Me – Patrick has not gained any weight, but he’s pretty healthy and works out every day. He did mention that he definitely eats a lot less healthy and a lot more sweets when I’m pregnant though!
9.) Morning Sickness – This is a big GIRL sign! No nausea means a boy!
Me – I only got sick one time my entire pregnancy. I only got sick once with Beau as well.
10.) Toddler Test – They say if a toddler shows interest in a pregnant lady, you can expect the opposite gender to be in your belly.
Me: This is an interesting one for me because Beau seriously started to shy away from me when I was early in my pregnancy. He has thankfully warmed back up to me since! But I have noticed when working in the nursery at church that baby boys are fussier for me, while the baby girls are calm and happy around me.
11.) Older Sibling Test – If the older siblings hairline across the neck naturally goes to a point, it means your next child will be the opposite gender. If the older siblings hairline naturally goes straight across the neck, then the next child will be the same gender.
Me: This is tough because we JUST got Beau’s hair cut!!! It is definitely straight across right now, but kinda looks like it will grow into a point. You be the judge…
12.) Mom’s Intuition – They say 71% of Mom’s are correct on their guesses.
Me: I have felt all along in my bones this baby is a BOY! But, I 100% thought Beau was a girl last time lol!
So, of my 12 tests, 7 say boy, 3 say girl and 2 are inconclusive. When we go in for our ultra sounds, we always tell the tech that we don’t want to know the gender, but one time we caught the tech say he/him/his and another time we clearly heard she/her multiple times…which has really thrown us! We seriously have no clue which makes us all the more excited!
What do you think? Boy or Girl?! Weigh in below!
What the heck , this post makes it more confusing! I say girl at 7 pounds.
